We are at the end of our little xanga revival experiment, I am suddenly reminded of the reasons why I even wrote on xanga to begin with - to share with you (my hundreds and hundreds of fans, eh more like 7 this week) bits and pieces of my thoughts and experiences. This one I am about to share happened about 1 hour ago at lunch.

So I am getting lunch at Real Time Sports Bar and Grill in Itasca with my folks. They wanted to go to this other Chinese place not too far, and when we got there, there was a sign that said, "closed for vacation until July 14th". My parents were a little bummed out because they always prefer Chinese food over anything else. On a side note, I will say however my parents are quite open minded compared to most Asians when it comes to cuisine. They regularly will eat French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, etc....anyways so we ended up at Real Time sports. My dad is looking at the menu, the server comes over to take our orders down, and this is what my dad says:

Mr Wu: yeah what is this sandwich, how you say this? P-O Boy? What does that mean?

Me: uhhh that's actually Po' Boy sandwich

Server: yeah thats Po Boy sandwich

Mr Wu: what does that mean? why it called po boy?

Server: thats just what it's called, i dont know

Me: ill explain later.

I later explained to him that it was either a cajun accent thingy or an ebonics accent thingy. and they were like AHHHH.

dream becomes reality

so i guess i had a dream the other night, probably on mon or tues nite. funny thing is, it just came to my memory when i was at lunch today. i dreamt that i had gone to Costco and picked up a bottle of chivas and a bottle of black label. while I was at lunch thinking about it, i was actually thinking I was going to bring the bottle of chiv to my friend's condo today for some thurs night drink action. and then in my mind, i went, wait a second, i dont have any chivas left. then a second later , thought - of course i do, i just went to Costco the other day and bought some. then i thought again - wow can you go to Costco foo, you let someone borrow your card. and then i realized snaps, it was a freaking dream!!!! first off, yes i know, it's a bad sign if i am dreaming of delicious blended scotches. over these past couple of years, i have turned to the chivas side - and i have brought some friends with me. welcome to, the chivas life.

please dont stop the music...

so a lot of talk about music these days, especially with the passing of M-Jax, considered by many to be the top pop-star of all freaking time. For some reason, I dont think I am as sad as the majority of the people out there. I am saddened by the death of anyone, dont get me wrong, and I would never dare to disrespect or downplay a tragic moment such as this. I do realize the man made so many hit songs, influenced so many artists, etc...but so quick is everyone to just forget some of the sick things he has done - such as have little boys sleep over at his house. I heard he had a triple lock for his bedroom in his house. I know nobody is perfect, but i would say people who are guilty of murder, rape, beating his wife, or child molestation...those are the kind of flaws that I would think are on a slightly different level compared to someone who's main flaw is being overweight, sucks at sports, or is even an asshole, or has a bad temper.

anyways enough MJ talk, but I still want to talk about music. Pitchfork and Lolla are both fast approaching. So many bands I would love to see at both music festivals. Pitchfork is more of the Indie label festival - you will definitely see more doods wearing skinny / lowrider jeans than chicks wearing skinny jeans at a ginseng party - while Lolla is more of the goliaths of rock/alternative rock. But I was very impressed by Lolla's collection of Indie bands this year. They got all the studs from the last 2 or Pitchforks- basically bands that have really launched their careers. I mean shiiiet, if I am sitting here talking about a certain band, they are way past their underground/indie stages.

so some of the new bands I have gotten into over the past 1-2 years. Vampire Weekend, The National, Cut Copy, Spoon, The Shins, The Decemberists, MGMT, Phoenix, Asobi Sesku.

The only show ive seen recently is The Hold Steady at Taste of Randolph. Saw Asobi play at Empty Bottle like 4 months ago, very small but cool show. Missed out on Cut Copy as it was sold out, and also missed out on Metric who was in town recently.

after singing erasure over the weekend, i say i say i say has gone into my car's cd rotation. hahaha.

day 2....

the saga continues...wu tang, wu tang...(guess which wu-tang song, and which wu-tang member is next to flow?)

so yeah, yesterday's attempt at this xanga comeback was quite feeble on my part - for that I apologize. Everyone made some good points yesterday on the rise and fall of xanga. A friend of mine even wrote a Facebook note yesterday on the rise and fall of xanga after I updated my status saying that we were going to revive xanga for the week. i think to summarize the main reasons why xanga is dead 1. we are all getting old 2. our jobs require more responsibility than ever before - people actually do real work now, and have less time to chat, waste on the internet, etc.... 3. newer innovations like facebook, twitter, etc...

friendster and myspace came and went like a rain storm. facebook is like the ice age cometh that has and will probably last a long time. what will supercede facebook? im sure something eventually will come along. there has to be, think about it. our parents are fugging on facebook now. well not mine, but a lot of parents are. it's quite disturbing actually, because now once again, one must be careful what they post, photos they add, etc....you never know who is watching. i have coworkers on my facebook friend list too. i think something will come along - that will be the revolution, something underground, something more hip or cool that obvioulsy the younger kids will migrate to first. im sure it's already out there. but since we are older, we will know about it, in probably 1-2 years. kinda like hot clubs - once asians start going, it's the beginning of the end for that club.

HOMECOMING!

welcome back to xanga djgranite1! my my it's been a damza long time since we've written on xanga. for me it's been since Mar 2008. it's felt longer than that though. who's brilliant idea was this again? there once was a time where we were all able to write an entry daily for about 2 years straight, and then for the next year or 2, we were all able to write a 1-2 times per week. so after a full year of not writing, you would think i would have a ton of interesting stuff to say huh?

not really.

maybe tomorrow.

Friday, March 21, 2008

oh dream master, please interpret this dream for me.

this occurred in between snooze alarms, which is probably the only reason why i remember this one. 99.9% of the time i have no recollection of my dreams. anyways here goes...i dreamt that the cleaning lady suddenly came in and said she wouldnt do it anymore. but she was kind of acting all frantically and crazy. i woke up suddenly as if i had a nightmare and i was really relieved it was only a dream. now the funny thing is, i dont have a cleaning lady, my parents do (she comes every other week), and we have one for our office too (weekly). so i have no clue what this means.

retarded i know.

march madness is here. nothing beats it. i went very chalk this year.

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

we goin to Sizzzzzla, we going to Sizzzzzla.

was in LA last week from weds-sun (for work and then relax), we came THIS close to eating at a Sizzler. we were actually pretty pumped at the idea of it. nostalgic thoughts of childhood when eating out was sizzler, red lobster, or old country buffet. totally forgot that you had to walk to the front counter to order and pay. they had the huge display board on the wall, and each entree had it's own picture and they were tiled off in squares - totally 80s style. the pictures were quite depressing, the people in there were kinda depressing. i feel bad for being a snob. but yeah, it was almost our turn to order, we came to our senses and got the hell out of there before it was too late. we ran out laughing. so for my trip, the meals i had in order included: weds dinner: Magnolia (trendy comfort food place in hollywood), thurs lunch: Lucky City (awesome chinese food in Monterrey Park), thurs dinner: Siam (really good Thai place in Inglewood/Manchester), Fri lunch: The Perfect Bird (or something like that, near the airport - it was a buffet that had friggin King Crab Legs!), Fri dinner: Sheek Du Rak (best chadul ever, they actually had a power outage, but still remained open. it was dinner by candlelight with less crowds than usual), sat lunch: Ding Tai Phung (only the best dam soup dumplings ever!), sat dinner: walked into Sizzler, walked out, and ate at El Torito (it was aite, not the best mexican food ive ever had for sure), sun lunch: Mama D's (italian restaurant on Manhattan Beach).

Thursday, February 28, 2008

pre-spring cleaning....

last saturday i spent almost my entire afternoon cleaning out my closet. i dont know what inspired me to do so, but 3 hours later i was very proud. basically i took out all the obsolete styles and clothing that i dont wear anymore, folded them nicely, and placed them in large garbage bags for salvation army. i filled 3 giant bags worth of clothing. i still had friggin stuff from my college days still in my closet. It was amusing to see the types of styles i had gone through - i had so many phases. back during college and right after college, i was pretty out of shape - so all my shirts were XL ginormous - i was pretty self conscience about it too (i still am). brand names included: Tommy, Nautica, Polo SPORT. Then after college, early workinig days, lots and lots of B.R., and lots and lots of Kenneth Cole haha which were the basic essential clothing lines that served multi-functional as work and clubbing. Back in those days it was 3 days a week, ginseng every single nite possible, and saga also! then i started working out and getting into better shape - so i went through his stretchy, shiny, tight fitting phase. yeah i will admit, i still have some more form fitting shirts, but defintely not the caliber of what i used to wear. and yes some of my more comfortable shirts still have shorter sleeves which show the guns, but its all good. then i had my trendy, funny slogan t-shirt phase. I still held onto most of these. can never have too many t-shirts. "you dont know preston? preston...the dood wears t-shirts"

as i was finishing up, i took a few items out of the donation pile, and put them back on hangers. these were the more sentimental picks i wanted to keep. first mention is my infamous green Polo shirt (ralph lauren polo). this also included my fave flannel from high school (remember when flannel used to be in - grunge baby?). another fave was this cotton button down also polo brand, which i think is really nice and soft, but its just so dam huge on me now. i chose to save it because i foresee myself getting back to that form again one day. why waste money? also for shits and giggles i saved a perry ellis formal-vest that used to go nicely with z cavs, a crazy patterned rayon shirt buttoned all the way to the neck, and a couple sprays of Drakkar. i used to have white z cavs. WHITE! ugh pretty sick. SICK as in, throw up in my own mouth sick, not dayum that 360 dunk was SICK! happy friday. good bye

Friday, February 08, 2008

be very very honest......do you drool when you sleep? do you sometimes wake up to find your face touching a wetspot on the pillow?

me neither. just checking!

work has been hell lately. if i had hair, i would have pulled it out by now. our database hardrive crashed last week. and we stopped backing up our data sometime ago. The mere thought of having no data made me almost cry last week. but there is a god, and our data was recovered in full by the actual hardrive mfg Seagate - who luckily had a branch here in chicago area. now we are just trying to get our server reconfigured to the way it was. so i breathed a huge sigh of relief on weds.

whats your favorite fortune cookie message?

"You love Chinese food" is a good one. Ive been getting nothing but negative fortunes lately. you must work on this, you must improve on this, dont be like this....etc....basically telling me im a piece of shit. hahaha

happy friday?

Wednesday, January 30, 2008

My Food Network Challenge

I have to started to watch Food Network more and more. I do like to cook, but it's hard to find time to cook consistently. Plus, since I live alone - it's not as fun to cook for yourself. Lately I fallen asleep on the couch to the likes of Sandra Lee's show "Semi-Homemade". It is about quick dishes, mostly store prepared foods, but she can make it seem fairly gourmet with a few simple twists. She uses the word "fabulous" a little more than I can stand, but I can take it due to the fact that she is pretty dang smokin for a middle aged woman. going off topic, who takes the crown for most attractive Food Network host/chef/celebrity? Of course my personal fave will always be Giada De Laurentis. yeah she got kinda a big forehead but so what - so do I. It must be fate. Plus, she knows how to show off her goods, yet she does it in a not-so-slutty way. nah mean? i was going through the food network website and they list all the chefs and hosts, ever hear of Ingrid Hoffman? she is kinda hot too - but i have never seen her show. of course there is rachel ray, nigella, and paula! haha.

im going to sue the makers of the soymilk i bought recently. it stated lactose free on the carton and ive gotten the runz both times i have consumed cereal. i made a decision to try and eat healthier, which means eating more meals at home, and controlling my ingredients and food i use. part of that also included eating breakfast - healthy cereals. i had not eaten cereal in years. its been so long since ive purchased milk - and i actually looked forward to it. it has come back to bite me in the ass, and then my ass has turned around to bite me also.

gauntlet 3 has started! and i also enjoyed watching America's Next Best Dance Crew. That was aweosme. my fave team was a crumpin/booty shakin crew from florida. They were awesome. 2nd fave was the korean american group from cali - kaba-modern. crazy poppin.
